Days off and time off

How somebody asks for a day off, how you approve it, and the days they never work.

Asking for a day off

Time off is asked for by the person who needs it, from their own account: Requests in the menu (the page is called Time off). They pick the dates and a kind — holiday, sick, leave or unpaid — and add a note if they like. If their employer has recorded a balance, it is shown above the form. A request they change their mind about can be withdrawn.

A manager can also record it for anyone, including somebody with no account: open the person on Staff and use Record time off. It is approved on save and appears here.

Approving or declining

Requests waiting on you are listed under Pending on the same page, for an owner, admin or scheduler. Approve, or Deny with an optional reason that the person sees exactly as you type it.

Approving stops that person being put on a shift across those dates. It does not take them off a shift they are already on: any such shift is shown under the request, for you to sort out by hand. A request that is still pending only warns.

Days somebody never works

For a pattern rather than a date — Maria is never in on Fridays, a part-timer only works mornings — open the person on Staff and use Availability (formerly Standing hours): the day and the times they cannot work, every week. 'Cannot work' refuses an assignment unless somebody overrides it with a reason; a preference only guides. They can see and change these on My shifts too.

Days when nobody works because you are closed go under Settings → Holidays & closures, as closed days.

In the app this lives at /app/requests.
